SIAH Inaugurates New Classroom Block to Enhance Learning Environment

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture (SIAH) officially inaugurated its new block of classrooms in a short ceremony yesterday morning at the institute’s campus in Anse à la Mouche. The unveiling of the commemorative plaque was done by the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert, the Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin, the director of SIAH, Maryanne Marie, and former director George Belmont. The ribbon cutting was carried out by Minister Joubert, Minister Valentin and two students named Abigail Hoareau and Nishawn Charles.

Constructed by Guinjian International, the new two-storey block features two classrooms on the ground floor, while the first floor houses one classroom and a laboratory. The project began in June 2024 and was completed in July 2025. The new facilities are expected to enhance the learning environment at the institute, providing modern, well-equipped spaces for the growing number of students undertaking studies in agriculture and horticulture.

The inauguration marks another important step in the continued development of SIAH as the country’s main centre for training in sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry and horticulture. The institute plays a central role in supporting the country’s food security objectives and in producing graduates with the practical skills required by the sector. The new block adds capacity to the campus and will contribute to a better learning experience for current and future students.
