VICTORIA, Seychelles — Ten students from Seychelles will take part in an active cultural exchange programme with Japan, after receiving their travel documents on Friday morning at a brief ceremony held at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education auditorium.
The students are Gregg Mondon, Miah Morel, Raisha Gabriel, Anaelle Barra, Elly Leon, Hezron Jean, Rheeya Labrosse, Danille Joaneau, Leah Ah-Time and Nelson Charlse Hernandez. They will be accompanied by four teachers, including Mariette Esparon, principal education officer for secondary education, and Berguitta Labonte, head teacher of Anse Royale secondary.
The exchange follows a recent visit by Japanese students to the Anse Royale secondary, English River secondary and International School Seychelles earlier this year. The four visiting students per school were selected on criteria including being born between 2011 and 2012.
The trip, funded jointly by the Japanese and Seychelles governments, will include educational and historical site visits and an ocean excursion. The students are expected to attend the Japan World Expo 2025 in Osaka, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”. The Ambassador of Japan to Seychelles, Makoto Sakuta, was present at the document handover.
