VICTORIA, Seychelles — The 13th edition of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games closed on Saturday evening at the Paradise Arena, with the ceremony taking place in front of a sizeable crowd that defied the rain to attend. Following a week of intense competition among young athletes from across the Indian Ocean, the closing ceremony marked the formal end of Seychelles’ hosting of the regional multi-sport event.
The ceremony was marked by cultural performances from participating nations and a handover segment, with attention now turning to the next edition of the games. Seychelles handed the regional sporting torch to the Comoros, which is set to host the 14th edition in 2027, with Djibouti confirmed as the host of the 15th edition in 2029. Athletes and officials from the various delegations took part in the closing procession, cheered on by Seychellois spectators and visiting families.
Speaking after the ceremony, officials from the local organising committee expressed their satisfaction with how the games had unfolded, noting the strong volunteer support and the smooth running of events across the various venues. They also paid tribute to the visiting delegations for the spirit of camaraderie shown throughout the week. The games are expected to leave a lasting legacy for youth sport development in the Indian Ocean region.
