Seychelles Ambassador to UN Calls for Lasting Peace in Palestine Statement

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Ambassador Madeleine, Permanent Representative of Seychelles to the United Nations, has called for a renewed push towards a lasting resolution of the Palestinian conflict, emphasising the importance of international laws and obligations. The statement, delivered at the United Nations, reiterated Seychelles’ long-standing support for the two-state solution.

“The path to peace requires bold action by the international community, including the full implementation of United Nations resolutions and the recommitment of all parties to dialogue. The Two-State Solution remains the only viable framework for a just and lasting peace,” stated Ambassador Madeleine. The ambassador also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called for unimpeded access for humanitarian aid.

Seychelles officially recognised the State of Palestine in 1988 and established diplomatic relations with the State of Israel in 1992. Since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, Seychelles has repeatedly called for a permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of hostages, and renewed efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The ambassador’s statement is part of ongoing efforts by small island states to amplify the voice of the international community in pursuit of peace.
