International Organisation for Migration Highlights Border Security Training at Regional Forum

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Senior representatives of the International Organisation for Migration have highlighted the importance of partnerships with member states and the Indian Ocean Commission in promoting regional training on border security, migration management and the fight against trafficking in persons. The remarks came during a four-day training session attended by IOM experts and regional delegations.

Speaking at the forum, the IOM representative to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia noted that the course aims to build operational capacity in maritime and border security through hands-on skills exchange, while also addressing the broader migration challenges facing the region. He stressed that threats such as human trafficking, drug smuggling and irregular migration require coordinated responses from countries of origin, transit and destination.

Participants at the forum exchanged views on best practices and explored avenues for greater cooperation, with Naif Arab University for Security Sciences also contributing expertise. The forum concluded with a commitment to deepen collaboration through regular training, joint exercises and the sharing of intelligence to address common security challenges in the Indian Ocean region.
