Minister Marks International Day for Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem 2025

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment has delivered a message to mark the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem 2025, highlighting the importance of mangroves to Seychelles’ biodiversity, coastal protection, and climate resilience. The Minister noted that mangroves are among the most productive and valuable ecosystems in the world.

The Minister highlighted the linkages between mangroves and other coastal ecosystems, noting that the loss of mangroves can have serious consequences for marine life, fisheries, and the protection of shorelines. Seychelles is a member of the Western Indian Ocean Mangrove Network and continues to work with regional and international partners to support mangrove conservation and restoration.

The Ministry, working with partners, will continue to invest in mangrove restoration projects, community awareness, and research to ensure that these ecosystems continue to provide the services on which the country depends. The Minister urged all Seychellois to play their part in protecting the country’s mangroves and other coastal ecosystems for future generations.
