VICTORIA, Seychelles — Key national and international partners, industry stakeholders and government representatives met at the Savoy Resort & Spa, Beau Vallon yesterday, to learn and discuss the ‘Integrated Collaborative Approaches for Sustainable Tourism’ (iCOAST) programme to be implemented in Seychelles as of 2026. The iCOAST programme is a timely and ambitious initiative that seeks to transform Seychelles’ tourism sector by promoting sustainable practices rooted in circular economy principles, climate resilience and nature-based solutions.
The project aims to reduce the environmental footprint of the tourism industry by addressing waste, harmful chemical use and greenhouse gas emissions, while supporting the protection of coastal ecosystems and enhancing policy frameworks for long-term sustainability. It is part of broader international efforts aimed at supporting small island developing states (Sids) to transition towards more sustainable, low-impact and resilient tourism models.
Officials at the meeting said the programme will provide a structured framework for collaboration between government, the private sector and international partners, and will help position Seychelles as a leader in sustainable tourism in the region. The discussions are expected to inform the design of the national implementation plan, which is set to begin in 2026.
