Praslin Secondary School Wins Second National STEAM Olympiad

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Praslin secondary school emerged as the winner of the second National STEAM Olympiad, at a ceremony held at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE) in Mont Fleuri. The event, organised by SITE and the Ministry of Education, was a celebration of Pi Approximation Day, observed because the fraction twenty-two over seven (22/7) offers a close estimate of the mathematical constant Pi.

Present at the ceremony was the Minister for Education, Dr Valentin, who congratulated the winning team and emphasised the importance of STEAM subjects in the development of the country. The Olympiad provided an engaging platform for students to explore and showcase their talents in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, and aimed to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of these subjects through practical and creative application.

Officials at SITE said the Olympiad is part of a wider effort to promote STEAM education in Seychelles, and to encourage more young people to pursue studies and careers in these critical fields. They thanked the Ministry of Education, the judges, the teachers and the students for their contributions to the success of the event, and noted that the Olympiad will be held again next year.
