Constable Heather Japha, 20, Praised for Saving Woman’s Life in Road Accident

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Constable Heather Japha, a 20-year-old police officer, has been praised for her quick action in saving the life of a woman involved in a serious road accident on Avenue de la Constitution over the weekend. Speaking to local media, the young officer said she was ‘filled with an emotion I cannot describe’ after the courageous act.

Born and raised in Bel Air, Constable Japha did her primary schooling at Bel Eau and her secondary studies at Belonie and Ile Perseverance. ‘For my post-secondary studies, I had chosen to become a teacher. But I then changed my mind and joined the police academy. This change is because I wanted to join the family squad within the police force for the protection of children,’ she explained. Her father is also in the police, in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID).

For the moment, Heather is assigned to general duties at the central police station. ‘My objective is to join the child protection unit,’ she stated with determination. According to the official police report, Constable Japha came across a serious road accident on Avenue de la Constitution. Without hesitation, she provided first aid to the victim, who was subsequently admitted to the Seychelles Hospital intensive care unit where she remains under treatment.
