Two Designated Parking Spaces in Victoria Reserved for Disabled Persons

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Two parking spaces in the centre of Victoria have been earmarked for the exclusive use of disabled persons, in a move welcomed by disability rights groups. The two designated spaces, located at the La Place de la République car park (Stad Popiler) and behind the Oliaji Trade Centre, were revealed to local media by the Ministry of Transport and the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA) during a meeting held yesterday morning.

Officials at the ministry said the new parking spaces are part of a wider effort to improve accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities in the country. The SLTA will be responsible for marking and monitoring the parking spaces, and for ensuring that they are respected by other road users.

The ministry called on members of the public to respect the designated spaces and to refrain from parking in them. Officials said that any vehicle found parked in a designated disabled space will be ticketed and removed, in line with the country’s traffic regulations. The initiative is also expected to raise awareness about the daily challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Seychelles.
