VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Minister for Lands and Housing, Billy Rangasamy, yesterday visited two major housing redevelopment projects at Corgate Estate and Mont Buxton, both government-funded and contracted to Seychellois company Dean Builders. The first 16-unit development at Hangard Street, Mont Buxton, is expected to begin on February 10, 2026, for a duration of nine months, at a cost of around R13.6 million.
Civil works are currently underway to facilitate access for trucks transporting granite, bricks and other construction materials. Physical construction will commence once the perimeter walls are completed to secure and stabilise the terrain. According to Minister Rangasamy, the plan is to build one block consisting of three-bedroom apartments and another block of two-bedroom apartments, and discussions are underway to incorporate additional units as well as a community parking facility.
The second location visited was the affordable housing project at Corgate Estate, currently in its fifth phase. The 32-unit project, costing R28 million, is expected to be completed by August 31, 2026 and will include nine phases in total. The first 16 units will comprise three blocks of three-bedroom apartments, while the remaining units will consist of one block of two-bedroom apartments. The minister noted that the government’s redevelopment efforts have been aggressive, with 175 housing units completed under the current administration and another 50 currently underway.
