VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister for Internal Affairs Charles Fonseka led a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Bon Espoir High Security Prison on Tuesday July 15, 2025, ahead of the facility’s official opening later this month. The visit was an opportunity for the minister and his team to inspect final preparations at the site.
The new facility, which is expected to significantly improve the capacity and conditions of Seychelles’ correctional system, is fitted with modern infrastructure designed to enhance security, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. The construction and equipping of the prison represent a major investment by government in the country’s justice and penal system.
During the visit, Minister Fonseka was briefed on operational plans, staffing arrangements and the programmes that will be made available to inmates. He said the official opening will mark an important milestone for Seychelles’ correctional services and expressed appreciation to all those who have worked to bring the project to completion.
