Seychelles Civil Aviation Veterans Reflect on 45 Years of Service

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Two veterans of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) and the Seychelles Airports Authority (SAA) have spoken of perseverance, dedication and a genuine love for their work as the secrets of their remarkable 45-year careers, honoured at a recent ceremony at the Coral Strand Hotel, Beau Vallon. Senior carpenter Daniel Pierre, 62, joined the maintenance section in May 1980 at the then Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) and rose from labourer to his current position.

Sub-fire officer Williamson Lesperance, 57, began his career in 1980 at the Seychelles Ports Authority as a boat boy on board the then ferry vessel Lady Esme before transferring to DCA in 1982 to join the fire service team as a firefighter. Both men described the ups and downs of their long service and the deep sense of fulfilment that has sustained them. Minister for Transport Antony Derjacques, who attended the ceremony, encouraged anyone seeking a job to consider becoming a firefighter, calling it a deeply rewarding career that allows one to save lives and serve the community.
