Seychelles Scouts Join UniSey Workshop on Youth Voice in Environmental Protection

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Scouts Association, in collaboration with the University of Seychelles and the Australian embassy in Mauritius, hosted a youth workshop at UniSey aimed at giving Seychellois young people a platform to express their views on protecting the environment. The workshop, led by scout chief commissioner Betty Mai Sofa, brought together students and youth leaders from across Mahé.

Speaking at the workshop, Jeanette Larue of the Youth Action Alliance presented the numerous methods being implemented in schools to provide young people with the skills to meet their daily needs while respecting the environment. Tristan O’Brien, secretary at the Australian embassy, said it was essential to give young people a voice on environmental questions, as it is their future that is at stake.

Participants said they hoped their recommendations would be relayed not only in Seychelles but also at the global level, including at COP30, to be held in Belém, Brazil, in November. The initiative also aimed to strengthen collaboration between the different members of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) mission, since similar workshops were being held in other member states.
