Round Table Seychelles Donates R150,000 Towards New Hospital Project

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Round Table Seychelles (RTS) has made a contribution of R150,000 towards the construction of the new Seychelles Hospital. The money is part of funds raised during the Regatta Soundz held at the Gordon Square and the Children’s Playground in Victoria in December 2024. Former RTS president and Regatta Soundz organiser Alex Freminot presented the cheque to the treasurer of the New Seychelles Hospital fund-raising committee, Francis Mondon, in a short ceremony held yesterday afternoon at State House, in the presence of Vice-President Ahmed Afif and other members of RTS, including its current president, Alex Henderson.

Mr Freminot expressed RTS’ honour in supporting the construction of the new hospital, noting that the successful Regatta Soundz event raised over R400,000, part of which went towards the renovation of the Children’s Playground. Mr Mondon thanked RTS for the generous donation and said the money will be deposited in the new hospital bank account at the Central Bank of Seychelles. He noted that the committee is still receiving contributions from various donors, with the most recent cheque of R123,000 from the Seychelles National Choir following a concert at State House, and R82,000 collected through a donation box at the STC Hypermarket over a year.

Mr Mondon emphasised that a total of R5 million in local and foreign currencies has been collected so far, with an additional R500,000 expected in the coming months from AMSA Medical Centre Seychelles, which has pledged R5 million to the fund and has already paid R500,000. He added that the government has pledged R660 million towards the project. Meanwhile, Round Table Seychelles has announced that Regatta 2025 will be held at its traditional venue in Beau Vallon on October 17, 18 and 19.
