Seychelles and Russia Reaffirm Diplomatic Ties as Cultural Collaboration Expands

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Seychelles hosted a vibrant reception on Tuesday, 17 June at the Savoy Resort in Beau Vallon to mark Russia’s National Day—an occasion that celebrated nearly five decades of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The event, attended by high-level officials, diplomats, and members of Seychelles’ cultural and political community, underscored the growing warmth and strategic cooperation between Seychelles and Russia in areas ranging from education and tourism to security and sport.

In his address, Russian Ambassador Artyom Kozhin highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties. Most notably, Ambassador Kozhin announced an exciting new initiative on the cultural front: the upcoming “Days of Rostov in Victoria” programme, set to be developed in partnership with the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts.

“This cultural exchange will bring Russian art, music, and history to Seychelles in a meaningful and engaging way,” Kozhin said, adding that it would serve as “a powerful symbol of people-to-people diplomacy.”

The celebration was more than a diplomatic formality—it was a moment of shared respect and optimism for the future, set against a backdrop of growing international complexity. As Seychelles continues to broaden its global partnerships, its deepening relationship with Russia is a reminder that cultural diplomacy remains a cornerstone of global engagement.
