VICTORIA, Seychelles — ‘The World Through My Eyes’, an exhibition of original works by six autistic artists, is now on display at the Kenwyn House Gallery, hosted by Gran Kaz. The show, the latest in a growing series of socially conscious art initiatives hosted at the gallery since it became a public art space in 2018, brings together drawings, paintings, collages and multi-media pieces by Scott Savy, Jason Klinslow, Kyan Francourt, Brendon Denousse, Mathias Morel and Akhim Matombe, each work reflecting the artist’s personal experience of the world.
Speaking at the opening, Scott Savy, aged 26, said it was an honour to display his work. He contributed a photographic collage made from pictures taken on his phone, arranged into an unfinished puzzle. Scott, who has lived with the condition since he was six, said he wanted to use his photographic skills in a way that would help people understand autism. The parent of another participant, Jerline Matombe, said her 11-year-old son Akhim had three works on display, all of which have already been bought by a foreign visitor. Gran Kaz presented a donation of R20,000 to Autism Seychelles to help refurbish the organisation’s sensory room.
The new chairperson of Autism Seychelles, Stephanie Desnousse, thanked Gran Kaz for giving the participants the chance to display their talents. She urged visitors not only to look at the art but to take the time to see the world through the artists’ eyes, describing each piece as a personal window into a mind that experiences life in extraordinary ways. The exhibition will remain open until July 15.
