VICTORIA, Seychelles — Reverend Danny Elizabeth has been elected as the new Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Seychelles, becoming the second Seychellois to head the Anglican Church in the country after the late Archbishop French Chang-Him. The last Anglican Archbishop of Seychelles was the Most Reverend James Wong, who retired in December 2024 after a 15-year tenure.
The election of Reverend Elizabeth was confirmed at a ceremony attended by church leaders, faithful and well-wishers. He will now lead the Anglican Church in Seychelles at a time when small congregations across the islands continue to play an important social and pastoral role, particularly in supporting vulnerable families, the elderly, and young people.
In a message of congratulation, the Seychelles Interfaith Council (Sifco) said it joined in “offering our heartfelt congratulations and prayers for Bishop Elizabeth as he takes up this sacred calling”. Sifco also paid tribute to the outgoing Archbishop James Wong, thanking him for his “faithful service and spiritual leadership” over 15 years, and expressed confidence that Bishop Elizabeth’s “deep commitment to the Gospel, pastoral heart and vision for the Church will undoubtedly be a blessing to the people and parishes of the Diocese”. Bishop Elizabeth is expected to be formally consecrated in the coming weeks.
