President and Opposition Leader Send Eid al-Adha Greetings to Muslims

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan and the leader of the United Seychelles opposition party, Dr Patrick Herminie, have both extended their warmest wishes to the Muslim community in Seychelles on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice. Eid al-Adha was observed on Friday June 6, 2025, and the National Muslim Council of Seychelles requested a discretionary day off for Muslim employees in the public sector, including parastatal organisations, to attend congregational prayers and related activities.

In his message, President Ramkalawan said Eid al-Adha is a time of deep spiritual reflection and meaningful tradition, calling for renewed faith, compassion for one another, and sharing blessings with others. “As the Muslim community comes together to offer prayers, perform acts of charity, and unite in the spirit of generosity, may this sacred festival bring peace, harmony, and renewed hope to our nation,” the President said. He commended the Muslim community for its continued contribution to the social, cultural and spiritual fabric of Seychelles.

Dr Herminie, for his part, said the Festival of Sacrifice is a profound reminder of faith, devotion, and the spirit of selfless giving. “It is a time when we reflect on the importance of compassion, sharing, and solidarity within our communities. The act of sacrifice at the heart of this celebration teaches us the value of putting others before ourselves,” he said. He added that United Seychelles remains committed to social justice, and called on all Seychellois to embrace deeper understanding, forgiveness, and generosity, irrespective of background or belief.
