Seychelles Launches National Tree Planting Campaign to Mark Environment Week

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment has launched a national tree planting campaign to mark Environment Week 2025, with activities planned across the three main islands. The campaign aims to plant thousands of native and endemic tree species in protected areas, schools, and community spaces.

Minister Flavien Joubert said the campaign is part of the government’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability and to combating the effects of climate change. He noted that reforestation, particularly with native species, plays a vital role in restoring ecosystems, protecting watersheds, and supporting biodiversity.

Communities, schools, civil society organisations and private sector partners are being invited to take part in the tree planting activities throughout the week. The Ministry said the campaign will also include educational activities, public clean-ups, and awareness sessions on sustainable waste management and the protection of marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
