President Ramkalawan Addresses Nation on Africa Day with Call for Unity

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has delivered a message to the nation on the occasion of Africa Day, calling on Seychellois to embrace Pan-African values of unity, solidarity and self-determination. The President underlined that Africa Day, marked annually on May 25, is an opportunity for the continent and its diaspora to reflect on the progress made and the work that still lies ahead in advancing shared aspirations.

In his address, President Ramkalawan highlighted Seychelles’ commitment to the African Union agenda and the country’s active role in regional and continental platforms. He said Africa’s development depends on strong institutions, peaceful coexistence, and the empowerment of its youth, who make up the majority of the continent’s population.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with African partners to deepen trade, investment and cultural exchange. He urged Seychellois to take pride in their African identity and to contribute actively to the continent’s transformation, particularly in addressing climate change, security and economic integration.
