Seychelles Participates in Third EU-AU Foreign Affairs Meeting in Brussels

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Kenneth Racombo, ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the European Union, represented the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, at the third EU-AU Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting, held in Brussels on May 21, 2025. The meeting was co-chaired by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and Téte António, Minister for External Relations of the Republic of Angola and chairperson of the African Union Executive Council.

Ministers approved a joint communiqué which highlighted key areas of progress and renewed commitments, with particular emphasis on the implementation of the Global Gateway Africa-Europe Investment Package, scaling up cooperation on the blue economy, and other priority areas. The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the state of the strategic partnership between the two continents and to identify new areas of cooperation.

The ministerial meeting was a preparation for the upcoming seventh AU-EU Summit to be held in Africa later in 2025, marking 25 years of strategic partnership since the inaugural summit in Cairo in 2000. The Seychelles delegation is expected to continue its engagement with EU partners in the lead-up to the summit, with a focus on areas of particular interest to small island developing states, including climate change, ocean governance, and sustainable development.
