Record Number of Participants Take Part in UniSey Hackathon

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A record-breaking total of 28 participants, representing 12 teams, are taking part in the Seventh Annual Hackathon Competition, the largest number of participants in the event’s history. The competition, hosted by the University of Seychelles (UniSey) in collaboration with the Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT), began at 2pm on Thursday at the Anse Royale campus and will conclude on Friday at the same time.

The hackathon marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, celebrated annually on May 17, and aims to encourage innovation and the development of digital solutions to real-world problems. Participants are tasked with developing prototype applications and digital tools over the course of the competition, with the winning teams receiving prizes and the opportunity to further develop their ideas.

According to the organisers, the hackathon also serves as a platform for students and young professionals to showcase their skills, network with industry leaders, and gain exposure to the latest trends in information and communication technology. The competition is supported by a number of public and private sector partners, including the DICT, UniSey, and several technology companies operating in Seychelles. The winners will be announced at a closing ceremony on Friday evening.
