VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister for Health Peggy Vidot on Tuesday visited a number of primary health care centres on Mahé, as part of a continuing effort to assess the state of primary health care delivery in the country. The visit emphasised healthcare innovations and the importance of community-level engagement.
The minister noted that the visit provided an opportunity to listen to concerns raised by health workers and patients, and to identify areas where additional support is needed. “Their approaches to health care emphasise healthcare innovations, and to primary health care services and health promotion than what is currently available,” the minister said, adding that her ministry is keen to ensure that primary health care remains the cornerstone of the national health system.
According to the ministry, hospitals are working to find ways to improve inter-disciplinary communication, effective discharge, reduce unnecessary patient satisfaction, and outcomes. The minister said the visit highlighted the need for a comprehensive review of primary health care targets and objectives, through sustained empowerment and group and community care from scratch. The ministry said it would continue to engage with health workers and the wider community to ensure that the lessons learnt from the visit are translated into concrete improvements in the delivery of primary health care services.
