Government Pushes Ahead with Bold Reclamation Projects to Meet Soaring Land Demand

The government is diving headfirst into a sweeping land development programme, unveiling plans for three major land reclamation sites and the much-needed restoration of a depleted national sand stockpile—all set to kick off by the end of this year.

Spearheaded by the Seychelles Investment Board (SIB), the initiative is being billed as a strategic response to growing pressure on the country’s limited land resources, particularly for industrial and commercial use.

“This is not just about reclaiming land—it’s about reclaiming economic potential,” said a senior SIB official. “We are addressing the bottleneck that has been holding back growth across key sectors.”

The upcoming projects are expected to unlock valuable parcels for future development, ease demand constraints, and inject momentum into Seychelles’ construction and investment sectors. Meanwhile, the sand stockpile replenishment will provide a critical boost to the building industry, which has suffered from supply shortages in recent years.

While full project details and locations are still being finalised, sources close to the matter confirmed that environmental assessments are underway to ensure that the new reclamation efforts meet sustainability standards and comply with local planning regulations.

With land scarcity continuing to challenge both investors and homeowners, these new projects are likely to be closely watched—not just for what they create, but for how responsibly they’re delivered.
