VICTORIA, Seychelles — The embassy of Nepal, based in Pretoria, South Africa, hosted a major promotional event at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort on Saturday aimed at enhancing trade, tourism, and investment ties between the two countries. It was the first time such a programme was organised in Seychelles.
The event was organised in collaboration with Hami Nepali Global Seychelles, the Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) Seychelles Chapter, and the Seychelles chapter of the NRNA. It brought together members of the diplomatic corps, Seychellois businesses, travel agents, and representatives of the Nepali diaspora. Ramesh Kumar Charmakar, counsellor and deputy chief of mission at the embassy of Nepal in Pretoria, outlined Nepal’s economic profile and investment potential during his presentation.
“This is the first time we are organising such a programme in Seychelles. The Nepali population here is growing, and they are making significant contributions in various sectors, particularly in hospitality, prison services, and security,” Mr Charmakar said. He expressed gratitude to the government of Seychelles for hosting the event despite the absence of several invited dignitaries due to the ongoing FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. He noted that Nepal is strategically located between two economic giants — India and China — and is transitioning from being a landlocked country to a ‘land-linked’ one, offering 100 percent foreign ownership rights and a tax-free environment for investors.
