VICTORIA, Seychelles — The outgoing Swedish ambassador to Seychelles, Caroline Vicini, on Tuesday launched an exhibition themed ‘A Tribute to Children’s Books’ at the Seychelles National Library and donated 70 children’s books. Some of the books feature the famous character Pippi Longstocking, the fictional protagonist in a series of children’s books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.
In her address, the ambassador noted that Seychelles, being an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, has a particular relationship with the rest of the world. ‘Until they are old enough to see other continents, they will discover in these books reflections of values close to our hearts — first and foremost, the relationship with nature,’ she said. The secretary general of the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, David André, expressed his deepest gratitude to the ambassador for this generous and thoughtful contribution.
‘This initiative is more than a gesture of goodwill — it is an investment in the minds, imagination and future of our children. We are especially grateful for the donation of children’s books. These are not just books; they are seeds of curiosity, discovery and lifelong learning,’ he added. The chief librarian, Anne-Marie Robert, accepted the books on behalf of the National Library. Chief librarian Anne-Marie Robert said maintaining a diverse library collection is an ongoing challenge, and that partnerships like this one, rooted in friendship, cultural exchange and shared values, are both timely and invaluable.
