Green Generation Seychelles Launches First Eco-Education Toolkit Workshop

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Green Generation Seychelles has launched its first eco-education toolkit workshop, a bold step toward transforming environmental education in the country. The event, held yesterday at the Mont Fleuri secondary school hall, brought together eco-school group leaders from across the country. The toolkit, an initiative by Green Generation Seychelles, is funded by the National Grant funding scheme at a cost of R309,265, in collaboration with the education for sustainable development section in the Ministry of Education, the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design (SIAD), the Seychelles Association of Retired Education Professionals (SAREP), and teachers’ support development of games and activities.

The workshop gathered eco-school group leaders, and pupils from both state and private schools on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, according to the project manager, Aurelie Monthy. ‘The toolkit will treat four topics, namely climate change, reusable conception, biodiversity and healthy living. Additionally, it will include a wide range of materials such as books, board games, videos, activity worksheets, and teacher guides,’ she said. The organisation’s vision is to increase ecological awareness in everyone’s mind so they can leave a greener world for future generations.

By the end of 2025, the project aims to achieve several impactful outcomes that will strengthen education delivery and support effective teaching practices. The initiative will target 30 schools across Seychelles, providing training for 120 teachers to ensure confident and effective use of the new resource. A significant milestone will be ensuring that at least 50 percent of classrooms within participating schools actively integrate the toolkit into their daily teaching, marking a strong step toward sustainable educational transformation.
