Health Ministry Launches YES! Youth Education Campaign

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with its partners, has launched an awareness campaign targeting mostly adolescents and parents entitled ‘Youth Education for Success’ or the YES! Campaign. The launch took place during a ceremony yesterday at the University of Seychelles (UniSey) auditorium, Anse Royale. The campaign, which will run until the end of the year, is aimed at equipping adolescents with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices, build healthy relationships, and grow into confident, empowered adults.

Each month, the campaign will explore a different theme through interactive activities including exhibitions, workshops for both adolescents and parents, and media content on various topics about youth development such as building healthy relationships, values, rights, violence prevention, staying safe, sexual and reproductive health among others. In her address, Health Minister Peggy Vidot conveyed her appreciation to officially launch the YES campaign. “It is a big step forward for our ongoing effort to give our youth the support and knowledge they need to face life’s challenges. The Ministry of Health is proud to lead this campaign alongside many committed partners,” she stated.

Mrs Vidot also highlighted that the campaign, which focuses on real-life knowledge and life skills, will allow young people to stay safe, both physically and emotionally. She also pointed out that 172 teenagers gave birth in 2024, and in some districts up to 32 percent of the new mothers were recorded as teenagers. 51 teenagers had recorded abortion. The chairperson of Elles Foundation Loréa Rassool expressed that she was very honoured when the ministry of health approached her to address a few words at the launch. “We need parents and guardians to engage with their children. We need to have open and honest conversations about sexual health. We need parents and guardians to provide a supportive environment.” The sessions will be at school and regional levels.
