PUC Gives Update on Power Supply Situation on Praslin and La Digue

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Public Utilities Corporation said ongoing maintenance work on its largest generator sets at the Baie Ste Anne power station is progressing well and is on track. The company issued a press release yesterday to update residents and business operators on Praslin and La Digue on the ongoing major overhaul, which started on Monday April 7, and is scheduled to be completed on Monday April 28, 2025.

According to the press release, over the past few days, the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) has been operating at maximum generation capacity on Praslin. “This was due to a combination of the abovementioned generator being offline for maintenance and a surge in electricity demand caused by the prevailing hot weather conditions,” read the press release. It should be noted that PUC is already making use of the two standby generators installed on La Digue, it added. “Given the current strain at the Baie Ste Anne power station, any unforeseen issue affecting the remaining online generators will require PUC to implement temporary load shedding on Praslin or La Digue. Should this become necessary, power interruptions will follow a planned schedule.”

Meanwhile, the company said it was reorganising the refurbishment process for the generator in question and has deployed additional personnel to Praslin to help with the work. “These efforts aim to accelerate the maintenance and bring the generator set back online sooner than planned,” it said. The company has thanked its customers for their continued understanding and cooperation during “this critical maintenance period.” Customers seeking further information have been encouraged to contact the PUC customer service line.
