VICTORIA, Seychelles — Representatives from various organisations in Seychelles are advancing conservation efforts through training in the EarthRanger software platform, a powerful tool used to collect, monitor and visualise conservation data in real time. The training brought together staff from conservation NGOs, government agencies and protected area managers to strengthen their technical capacity in using technology to support biodiversity protection.
EarthRanger, developed by Vulcan Inc., is widely used across Africa and Asia to support wildlife monitoring, anti-poaching operations, and protected area management. The platform allows conservation teams to record field observations, track animal movements, monitor threats and respond rapidly to incidents, all from a centralised dashboard. The training is expected to enhance coordination among the various agencies working on environmental protection in Seychelles.
The initiative comes at a time when Seychelles is investing in digital tools to support its conservation agenda, particularly in the outer islands and marine protected areas. The use of EarthRanger is expected to improve data-driven decision-making and provide a clearer picture of conservation challenges across the archipelago. The training also aligns with broader efforts to integrate technology into environmental management, ensuring that Seychelles remains at the forefront of innovative conservation practice in the Indian Ocean region.
