Selwyn Market Vendors to Relocate by Mid-April — Awaiting Final Touches at Former STC Site

Victoria’s bustling Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market is preparing for a long-anticipated move. According to Market Manager Mr. Vincent Germain, vendors will officially relocate to the former STC Supermarket by mid-April 2025, with only a few finishing touches left before the doors open to the public.

While the new location is fully equipped and vendors have already been assigned to their tables and stalls, Mr. Germain explained that the delayed installation of rolling shutters—currently on order from overseas—is the main reason for pushing the opening back by one to two weeks. The shutters, which are meant to replace the original glass doors and windows, are critical for improving airflow and enhancing security at the new site.

“The tables are ready, vendors are assigned, and the only thing left is the rolling shutters,” Mr. Germain said. “Once those are in, we’ll just need to complete some cleaning and we’re ready to go.”

The ground floor of the building will house 123 stalls for fruits, vegetables, flowers, and spices, as well as four food stalls and 23 souvenir shops. Each vendor will be outfitted with a designated wooden table. The first floor of the facility will remain unused for now, and discussions are ongoing regarding the setup of the fish market area.

Mr. Germain also noted that the relocation could finally provide relief from one of the market’s most chronic issues—a persistent rat infestation.

“The improved structure and sanitation controls in the new facility will help us manage the problem more effectively,” he said.

The move marks a key step in revitalising Victoria’s commercial core, offering both vendors and customers a cleaner, more secure, and better-organised environment. For now, all eyes are on the shutters—once they’re installed, it’s game on.
