VICTORIA, Seychelles — The City of Victoria, Seychelles and the City of Zhuhai, China, last week signed a Letter of Intent to enhance cooperation and foster exchanges across various sectors. This milestone agreement reaffirms the long-standing friendship between the two cities and underscores their shared commitment to mutual growth and prosperity.
The Letter of Intent was signed by Lydia Charlie, acting Mayor of Victoria, and Yuan Mindao, Vice-President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, during a short ceremony at the Mayor’s Office, State House Avenue. It establishes a framework for collaboration rooted in mutual respect, trust, equality and shared benefits. Key areas of cooperation outlined in the agreement include economy and trade, tourism development, fisheries, ocean and port development, as well as education and cultural exchange.
The City of Victoria said it looks forward to meaningful exchanges that will create new opportunities for its citizens while strengthening economic and cultural bonds. As part of this agreement, city leaders and relevant government departments will maintain regular contact to explore new opportunities for collaboration and address shared concerns. The Zhuhai Foreign Affairs Office will serve as the official communication and coordination channels. The agreement, which took effect upon signing, is for an initial five-year period with automatic renewal, and the two cities envision elevating their relationship to a Sister City partnership in the near future.
