World Down Syndrome Day Celebrated with Heartfelt Tribute to Children and Families

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Vocational Training Centre at North East Point was yesterday filled with joy, laughter and a deep sense of community as parents and children celebrated World Down Syndrome Day. Organised by the Family Department in collaboration with the ‘You and Me Foundation’, the event was a heartfelt tribute to children living with Down syndrome and their families, and brought together parents, children, caregivers, government officials and community leaders.

The highlight of the event was a special gesture from the First Lady, Linda Ramkalawan, who personally presented hampers to thirteen parents in recognition of their unwavering dedication to their children. Her presence at the event demonstrated a powerful message of love, support and inclusion for all people, particularly those living with disabilities.

Speakers underlined the importance of moving beyond awareness to practical support, noting that families raising children with Down syndrome need sustained networks, accessible services, and recognition for the role they play in society. The event formed part of a broader national effort to strengthen inclusion and ensure that children with disabilities have access to quality education, therapy, and opportunities to thrive.
