Schools Across Seychelles Mark Francophonie Day with Olympiades

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Schools across Seychelles joined the international community to celebrate the Francophonie, an occasion to highlight the richness of the French language and to promote the values of solidarity, tolerance and education. Under the theme ‘I learn, therefore I act’, the schools reaffirmed their commitment to promoting education as a driver of change, while underscoring the importance of Francophone culture. Primary schools, as well as some secondary schools, organised various activities in the lead-up to the day, celebrated on Thursday March 20.

Among these activities, the Anse aux Pins school had the honour of organising the first edition of the Olympiades de la Francophonie, an event particularly meaningful for the pupils and the school community. The school’s Gaëlle Nana, who is responsible for the Olympiades, said five establishments took part in the event: the École Exceptionnelle, Cascade, Au Cap, Plaisance and Anse aux Pins. About forty children, supervised by about ten teachers, took part in the competition, which was educational and playful in nature, with the focus on dictation, spelling, and reading.

In parallel, another notable activity took place at the Persévérance primary school, where the second edition of the Olympiades was held on Tuesday March 18. This edition focused on sports competitions, such as gymnastics, relay races, skipping, pétanque, and tug of war. The primary schools of La Misère, Cascade, Plaisance and Persévérance took part in the event, showcasing not only the spirit of competition but also the importance of unity and cooperation. These events organised in schools help to promote not only the French language but also the values of fraternity and friendship within the school community.
