Family Department Launches Six-Week Health Improvement Challenge for Women

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Family Department within the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family has launched a six-week health improvement challenge aimed at empowering women to prioritise their physical health, mental well-being, and overall lifestyle. The programme, which is in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO), is part of the activities to commemorate International Women’s Day.

Launching the programme in the presence of Principal Secretary for the Family Department Mr Mike Morel, Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Mrs Marie-Celine Zialor emphasised the importance of creating meaningful initiatives that not only address current needs, but also have a long-lasting impact on the community. She said the six-week challenge is part of the obesity campaign launched by President Ramkalawan, and noted that a similar programme carried out within her ministry has already shown great success.

Through a carefully structured programme that combines energising workouts, nutritional education, and group activities, participants will embark on a journey to improve their health, encourage weight loss and body confidence, while developing healthy eating habits and adopting a better approach towards mental and emotional well-being. Chief Nursing Officer Dr Gylian Mein explained the critical relationship between hormones and metabolism, while Jean-Michel Vidot of the Kilo Game weight loss programme conducted an exercise session for those present. The session will cost R300 weekly per person.
