Twelve Families Receive Keys to New Homes at Vista Heights Village, Glacis

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Twelve Seychellois families yesterday received the keys to their new homes at the new Vista Heights Village, Glacis Housing Estate, built under the theme ‘peace and harmony’. President Wavel Ramkalawan and the Minister for Land and Housing, Billy Rangasamy, had the honour of unveiling the commemorative plaque to officially inaugurate the new housing estate.

The housing estate consists of 12 two-bedroom units, designated parking spaces for tenants, a multi-purpose court, and a playground covering an area of 150 square metres. The project, which began in September 2023 and was completed in December 2024, was carried out by Dubai Civil Engineering, funded by the Qatar Fund and the government of Seychelles at a cost of R11.8 million. It has accessibility principles similar to those of other recently completed housing projects, and is equipped with fire safety equipment such as extinguishers, fire blankets, fire hose reels, and emergency lights.

Addressing those present, Minister Rangasamy said despite the obstacles which the contractor and the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency (SIA) faced during the construction, they were able to accomplish the task at hand within the given time. He also reminded applicants that there is a revision in the Home Saving Scheme and Housing Finance Company Loan Schemes which could be of interest to them, asking them to contact their housing officers. MNA for Glacis Regina Esparon said the vision for the project began when the government regained the land in July 2018. One of the new tenants, Marie-May Victor, said she is extremely grateful and happy, after 25 years of waiting: ‘I am extremely emotional as I have waited for a long time.’
