AMSA Healthcare Group Donates to Mosque and Children’s Convents During Ramadan

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The AMSA Healthcare Group made two sizeable donations yesterday, providing essential food items to the Islamic Society of Seychelles at the Victoria Central Mosque in the morning, and a similar consignment to the St Elizabeth Convent in the afternoon.

Chief operating officer of AMSA, Fatima Ajmal, presented the supplies — sugar, sunflower oil, salt and a range of other necessities — to Imtiaz Umarji, president of the Islamic Society, and to supervisor of the St Elizabeth Convent, Mary Prempeh-Marimba. The donations form part of AMSA’s community-giving programme timed to coincide with the holy month of Ramadan.

Ms Ajmal said: ‘If we want to reach the right places, then the best people that we approach is the mosque. Ramadan is such a time of blessing, we fast, we connect with each other and food is something that hinders that blessing where you need to concentrate and it takes away the essence, so that is where we hope to contribute.’ Mr Umarji thanked AMSA, noting that during Ramadan, benevolent Muslims regularly come forward to support those in need, and that such giving is a religious duty. Mrs Prempeh-Marimba said the supplies would help the convent deliver more towards the elderly and the children in its care, and called the timing of the donation ‘immensely helpful’.
