Seychellois Youth Share Indian Cultural Exchange Experience

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Six young Seychellois who represented the Seychelles National Youth Council in the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) of the National Cadet Corps in India from January 14 to 30 have shared the experience they gained from the Indian cultural exchange. The delegates, aged between 16 and 20, described the discipline they observed among Indian cadets and the cultural immersion they experienced during the two-week stay.

Nineteen-year-old Rohan Albert, a diploma in construction student at the Seychelles Institute of Technology, said India has truly exceeded his expectations in ways he can hardly describe. He noted that the warmth and hospitality of the local community left a lasting impression on him, a sentiment that was further reinforced during their visit to the Seychelles high commissioner to India, Lalatiana Accouche. ‘It was very easy to talk to the high commissioner because she was very welcoming, and the opportunity to ask questions and discuss our experiences settling in India, among other things, made the visit very beneficial,’ he said.

Lakisha Pierre, the youngest of the delegates at just 16, expressed her joy of forging new friendships. She said the journey has profoundly impacted her perspective, especially the discipline exhibited by her peers. Twenty-year-old Immanuel Vidot, a police officer, said his experience has strong connections to his career. While in New Delhi, the group had the opportunity to explore museums, tour the majestic Agra Fort, the iconic Taj Mahal and take part in the NCC parade during their visit with the Defence Minister.
