Children’s House Montessori Earns International Accreditation

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Children’s House Montessori School has officially been accredited by the International Montessori Accreditation Board, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to authentic Montessori education. Staff and students celebrated the prestigious achievement yesterday morning, joined by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, Vice-President Ahmed Afif and his wife Stella Afif.

Owner and head teacher Lucy Barois said that since the school’s establishment in 1995, it has strived to uphold the highest standards in line with the global Montessori network. The accreditation process, which began last year, involved a comprehensive review of the school’s teaching and learning practice, leadership and overall environment. ‘The process involved the whole school community, the teachers, the leadership teams, the students, the parents and the community,’ Ms Barois said.

The accreditation places the school among a small number of Montessori institutions worldwide that have met the rigorous international benchmarks. The recognition is expected to raise the school’s profile among expatriate families and Seychellois parents seeking an alternative to the mainstream curriculum, and to attract greater interest from educators interested in observing authentic Montessori practice in the Indian Ocean region. The school has indicated that it will continue to invest in teacher training and classroom materials.
