VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Ministry of Education hosted a delegation of six students, one principal and one lecturer from Japan’s Ozora High School in Hokkaido and Reihoku High School in Kochi Prefecture from January 22 to 25, 2025. The visit, organised under the theme ‘Friendship across Cultures’, took in stops at the English River and Anse Royale secondary schools, the Conservatoire of Performing Arts, the School of Dance and the Museum of History.
At each school the Japanese students and their Seychellois counterparts took part in traditional games, performed dances including the mardilo, and worked together on a mural painting depicting aspects of their respective cultures. The Japanese students also taught the art of origami to local learners, while Seychellois students shared Creole words. The delegation was treated to traditional food and concluded its visit with a tour of the perfume factory at Val de Près.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education received the delegation on January 24, with students giving presentations on the Japanese education system and the World Expo 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Osaka, Kansai, under the theme ‘Designing Future Society for our Lives’. The principal of Ozora High School, Yusuke Otsuji, said he hoped to host Seychellois students at his school in due course.
