Mont Fleuri Secondary and Beau Vallon Primary Named Most Outstanding Eco-Schools

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Beau Vallon primary and Mont Fleuri secondary schools have been recognised as the most outstanding eco-schools in their respective category, for implementing environmentally sustainable programmes both inside and outside of the classroom. The recognition came during the 30th anniversary of the Eco-Schools Award ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Education, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, at the SITE auditorium, Mont Fleuri.

The two schools, which scored the most points in the eco-school programme assessment, received a certificate, a green flag sponsored by the Ministry of Education, a trophy and cash prize sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment under the Environment Trust Fund, including an educational trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aldabra sponsored by Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF). Four other schools also qualified for the trip and other prizes, including Baie Ste Anne primary, Belonie secondary, Baie Lazare primary and Praslin secondary.

Three eco-warrior students — Cheyenne Noddyne-Bristol, Daron Jean and Shamirah Edmond — were also rewarded. Education Minister Dr Justin Valentin highlighted the 30-year legacy of the eco-schools programme in promoting sustainability, saying: “Schools and students are looking at all possibilities to get the students to understand what sustainable education is all about.”
