St Agnes Chapel at Former Fiennes Institute Undergoes Renovation in Roche Caiman

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The St Agnes Chapel, situated at the entrance of the former Fiennes Institute in Roche Caiman, is undergoing renovation after years in a dilapidated state.

The chapel, which belongs to the Anglican Diocese, was built in the 1900s during the colonial era. It served residents of the Fiennes Institute for many years before they were relocated to the new Home for the Elderly at North East Point in 2005. Since then, the building has stood largely unused and has fallen into disrepair, prompting the current restoration effort.

Officials at the Diocese have not yet released details of the cost or expected completion date, but the work is being seen as part of a wider effort to preserve colonial-era religious architecture in the Seychelles. The chapel is one of several historic religious buildings on Mahe that have been earmarked for conservation in recent years.
