Fire at Ile Perseverance Damages Prefabricated House, Family Escapes Unharmed

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A prefabricated three-bedroom semi-detached house at Ile Perseverance was partially damaged by fire yesterday afternoon, the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA) has reported. A five-member family escaped unharmed.

In a press release, the agency said the Victoria Fire Station received a call for assistance at 5:37pm and promptly deployed three fire trucks, a water bowser and a ten-member crew. On arrival, firefighters observed thick black smoke billowing from the house and flames had fully engulfed one of the ground-floor bedrooms.

“Flames threatened to spread to the adjacent unit of the semi-detached house,” the agency added, noting that its officers acted swiftly to contain the blaze, successfully preventing major damage to the neighbouring unit. Firefighters contained the blaze within two minutes and fully extinguished it in approximately 13 minutes.

SFRSA has reminded residents to test smoke alarms regularly, never to leave cooking unattended, and to keep flammable materials away from heat sources. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the agency has urged anyone with information to come forward.
