Seychelles Institute of Technology Mourns Deputy Director Rubina Larue

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Institute of Technology has paid tribute to Rubina Larue, its deputy director of studies, who died after a long battle with breast cancer. The 45-year-old lecturer and former district administrator of Anse Royale was remembered by colleagues as a woman of vision, determination, and exceptional professional commitment.

Ms Larue, born at Victoria Hospital on June 18, 1979, attended schools in Anse Royale before completing her A-levels at the Anse Royale Seychelles Polytechnic. She worked as a technician at the Land Transport division from 2000 to 2003, then joined SIT in 2006 on a scholarship to Bolton University in England, where she read B.Sc. Hons Civil Engineering. She returned as a lecturer and rose through the ranks to head of department and later deputy director.

SIT director Ferdinand Desnousse described her as a beautiful soul, a strong woman, and someone who balanced professional and personal life with rare grace. He noted that her ability to consult colleagues and value their input set her apart as a leader who genuinely cared about those around her. Hubert Barbe, a former colleague, said she had a background in teaching, served as Anse Royale district administrator for two years, and remained deeply committed to her own professional development, completing a postgraduate certificate in education and a master’s degree in educational leadership in 2023.

Ms Larue is survived by her son, Rueldo Figaro, born in 2012. She had begun construction of a family home in 2023 but was unable to complete the project. Her family has asked that her memory serve as a reminder that even in the face of the toughest battles, perseverance and resolve can carry a person further than they imagine.
